DriverCheck extends a thank you to Canada’s truck drivers
AYR, ONTARIO, September 1, 2013 – In recognition of National Trucking Week, DriverCheck is thanking Canada’s drivers and their employers for their significant contribution to our country.
With your drivers at the wheel, international trade is rolling. The most recently published statistics show that our country’s carriers transported about 225 billion tonne-kilometres of freight in 2011. That accounts for over half of all trade between Canada and the U.S. and 43 percent of all trade between Canada and the world.
On top of that, the trucking industry delivers on consumer goods. The country’s 128,000 drivers and 54,000 owner-operators help supply Canadians with more buying options and selection on store shelves – from fruits and vegetables, to furniture and electronics.
Despite the ongoing challenges it faces, the trucking industry is doing very well, reporting over $40 billion in operating revenue in 2010. That’s almost a 5 percent increase from 2009.1 Congratulations on your continued success!
In recognition of that success and drivers’ contributions to the country’s economic and social well-being, trucking associations across the country are holding a number of celebrations all week long. Check your local association for a complete listing of events and activities near you.
