With spring showers come new travel updates! All these updates and changes can be a bit confusing, so we have broken down the key travel restriction details you need to know that came into effect as of April 1st, 2022. 

• Travellers who are fully vaccinated (which is currently at least 2 doses of a 2-dose vaccine series or 1 dose of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine a minimum of 14 days before entering Canada) no longer require any pre-entry COVID-19 test (PCR or antigen) to get into Canada by land, air, or water.

• Some travelers may still be randomly selected to perform a COVID-19 test upon arrival. However, you no longer need to quarantine while waiting for the results. The Government is using these tests to help track the arrival of variants to Canada.

• You still need to fill out the questionnaire on the ArriveCAN app within 72 hours before entering Canada.

• Unvaccinated/or partially vaccinated Canadians (including children 5 years of age or older) will need to get a molecular or antigen test for entry to Canada and on the eighth day after arrival. These travellers must quarantine for 14 days — regardless of their test results during that period.

• Proof of a positive molecular test completed at least 10 day and no more than 180 days before entry to Canada can be used in lieu of a molecular or antigen pre-entry test.

• Children under five years old do not need a pre-entry test.

• Unvaccinated foreign nationals are not allowed to travel to Canada. There are some very limited exceptions.

• Those 12 years of age plus four months or older who are not considered fully vaccinated still cannot board domestic and international flights, Via Rail and Rocky Mountaineer trains, or cruise ships departing from Canada
