Close to 200 health and wellness professionals log on to fourth annual DriverCheck Fitness for Duty Summit

“Take Control” theme resonates with participants looking to promote a healthy and safe work environment

Ayr, Ont., November 1, 2021 - DriverCheck, the leading provider of workplace medical testing and assessments, virtually hosted its fourth annual Fitness for Duty Summit, October 5-6, 2021. Under the theme “Take Control”, the summit focused on empowering employers to implement effective methods to regain safety and control in the workplace. A total of close to 200 participants attended the 13 professional development sessions and keynote presentations from renowned healthcare professionals and speakers including DriverCheck’s Chief Medical Review Officer, and addiction medicine specialist, Dr. Melissa Snider-Adler, mental health advocate, international keynote speaker and best-selling author Allan Kehler, and Dr. Jonathan Davids, Corporate Medical Director at DriverCheck and spokesperson for COVIDdetect, the company’s newest health and safety business service.

The Fitness for Duty Summit 2021 keynote speakers included: 

  • Connor Page who opened the summit by paying tribute to the late Dr. Chris Page, the Founder of DriverCheck.

  • Allan Kehler focused on mental health in his session on “Mental Health: Finding Your Voice; How to Stop Suffering in Silence and Create an Attitude of Resilience”. Kehler is a wellness coach, mental health advocate, international keynote speaker and best-selling author of four books.

  • Dr. Melissa Snider-Adler discussed CBD and prescribed medications in her session on “ABCs of CBD” on day one and “Medication Navigation: Managing Prescribed Medications in Safety-Sensitive Workplaces” the final day. As part of Dr. Snider-Adler’s role as Chief Medical Review Officer at DriverCheck, she has authored and contributed to guidance documents advising organizations and employers on organizational risks during COVID-19.

  • Dr. Ashley Brooks-Russell engaged participants on cannabis impairment in her session “Emerging Approaches for Assessing Cannabis Impairment and the Complications of Tolerance” on the first day. Dr. Brooks-Russell’s current research investigates cannabis impaired driving and public health effects of cannabis legalization.

  • Dr. Jonathan Davids focused on workplace safety in his session entitled “Business Considerations for Workplace Safety During the Pandemic” on day two. As Corporate Medical Director at DriverCheck, Dr. Davids has been directly involved in conducting COVID-19 testing and has overseen more than 500,000 COVID-19 lab-based, rapid on-site PCR and antigen tests for employers across Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario, including testing done for migrant farm works, truckers and the general public on behalf of Ontario Health.

  • Trish Tutton discussed how to develop the mindset to thrive in her session “Mindful Resilience: Developing the Mindset to Thrive, No Matter What!” on day two. As a speaker and mindfulness teacher, Tutton has taught the skills to live and work happier to thousands of professionals.
