Drug and Alcohol Testing Services

  • If you or your workers operate certain commercial vehicles in the United States (such as buses, trucks, or a transporter of hazardous materials), you may be a U.S. DOT-regulated employer, where drug and alcohol testing is mandatory to meet DOT regulations.

All DriverCheck’s DOT drug testing is completed at laboratories certified by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)

DOT regulations apply to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)Federal Transit Administration (FTA)Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and US Coast Guard (Department of Homeland Security) (USCG).

  • Urine laboratory testing is the gold standard when it comes to drug testing, as it is the most accurate and legally defensible test available. All samples collected at our clinics are tested at HHS certified laboratories and Instrumental Initial Testing Facilities (IITF). DriverCheck offers several testing panels including the standard 5 panel and a variety of extended panel options to meet your workplace requirements.

  • POCT, also known as an instant test, is a screening test that produces a result within 15 minutes. Samples that screen as ‘non-negative’ are then sent to the laboratory for confirmation testing. DriverCheck offers the following POCT Testing Panels:

    • 7 Panel POCT

    • 8 Panel POCT

    • 10 Panel POCT

    • 12 Panel POCT

  • Oral fluid laboratory drug testing has gained popularity as it has a shorter window of detection for substance use compared to urine, is less invasive, and is harder to tamper with.

  • When drugs are ingested and metabolized, they are deposited and held in your hair. This allows for a longer window of detection of up to 90 days. Hair testing is generally used as part of a follow-up or return-to-duty program.

  • DriverCheck’s clinics are equipped with breathalyzers to perform breath alcohol testing. A breath alcohol test is an estimate of your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) by measuring how much alcohol is in the air you breathe out. All DriverCheck’s collectors are certified, and only use testing devices that are listed on the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Conforming Products Lists.

  • DriverCheck provides 24/7 alcohol and drug collection coverage to meet client needs. An afterhours call-out is an emergency situation where a company has an immediate need for testing (e.g. post-incident/post-accident, reasonable cause) before the clinic has opened or closed for the day. DriverCheck technicians are available to travel to the client location, or alternatively, the client may bring the worker to a DriverCheck clinic location.

  • Spirometry is a form of pulmonary function testing and is performed to help measure lung health and breathing capability in those exposed to respirable hazards. Spirometry may be completed as part of a fitness to use a respirator determination and/or as part of designated substance medical surveillance program (e.g. silica, asbestos, coal dust exposure).

  • Respirator fit testing is required for employees wearing tight-fighting respirators, such as disposable or reusable respirators. This test helps ensure the user has selected the correct size respirator and that a seal against the face can be made to provide the expected protection.

  • Respirator user screening is necessary to ensure that a worker is free from any physiological or psychological condition that could preclude them from using the selected respirator. All medical fitness to wear respirator determinations are made by a licensed health care professional and all information is treated as medically confidential.

  • Occupational respiratory disease surveillance is the ongoing monitoring of occupation-related lung disease related to workplace exposures such as asbestos, silica, coal dust, and chemicals including isocyanates.

  • Audiometric testing is the industry standard for evaluating and monitoring an individual’s hearing and identifying hearing loss, particularly noise induced hearing loss (NIHL). If your workers are exposed to noise hazards in the workplace, you may be required to complete audiometric testing in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations.

  • Biological monitoring is the measurement of a chemical or its metabolites in a biological sample (usually the media is urine or blood) against reference values to indicate how much chemical has entered the body by all routes of exposure. DriverCheck offers blood and urine testing for monitoring worker exposure levels to various hazards such as lead, benzene, mercury, chromium, arsenic etc.

  • DriverCheck can provided DNA Immigration Testing approved by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Case Processing Center to perform DNA testing for immigration casework. We also provide the most advanced and accurate DNA testing for resolving parentage for medical, legal, or personal reasons.

  • The purpose of a medical fitness-for-duty examination is to assess an individual’s functional ability to perform the essential tasks of the job (otherwise known as the bona fide occupational requirements, or BFORs), and to detect the presence of any physical and/or cognitive limitations or restrictive conditions, such as those that pose a risk for gradual or sudden incapacitation, that can affect the worker’s ability to perform their job safely.

Assessments are performed by Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Practical Nurse

  • A physical abilities test is a comprehensive assessment to evaluate a worker’s ability to perform the essential tasks of a job (bona fide occupational requirements), therefore, each testing station must have a rational connection to the job.

  • DriverCheck offers confined space assessments performed by a qualified health professional which will advise employers if a worker is medically fit to work in a confined space.

  • ExceleRATE is a commercial driving program that measures a driver’s cognitive skills across four tasks (VITALS) and compares their performance to cognitively healthy drivers from the same age group. It also involves a commercial on-road evaluation that evaluates real-time performance through a custom course.

  • Hearing loss is a serious concern for workers in many industries and can be caused by lengthy exposure to loud noises. To help protect workers from hearing damage, regulations and standards have been put in place regarding hearing protection and hearing fit testing (including earplug fit testing). At DriverCheck, our nurses and technicians have the knowledge, training, and skill to perform qualitative and quantitative hearing protection fit testing, and are supported by medical oversight, directives, and standard operating procedures to ensure this assessment is done safely and correctly.
