9 Pandemic Trends We Will Take With Us Into The Future

Most of us shiver just from hearing the words “mask”, “unprecedented”, “social distancing”, “quarantine” and other terms birthed from the COVID-19 pandemic.

We long to move on to brighter days, and put COVID-19 behind us, like a dirty family secret. How nice would it be to zap yourself with the memory eraser from Men in Black? Sign me up!

I’m sure we would all be happy to drop everything we learned during this pandemic, and return to a blissfully naive life.

The Impact of COVID-19 on Substance Use in Canada

This has been a long, arduous year for all Canadians. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has impacted all of us in one way or another, whether through the loss of someone close to us, shuttering of one’s business, loss of employment/working more hours than usual, financial stress, or isolation, to name a few. The impacts, however, on those individuals who use substances have been unimaginable. We are facing a growing epidemic within our current pandemic, in the form of an opioid crisis. We have also seen a rise in the use of alcohol, cannabis and, other substances over the last year.

Extended Hours to Support Maintenance Season

Roses are red, violets are blue, extended clinic hours, is our gift to you.

We are pleased to announce that starting February 16, our DriverCheck Clinics (Edmonton, Nisku, Sherwood Park and Calgary) will be open for extended hours to support shutdown maintenance season.

We realize that this is a busy time of the season for many, so we are opening our doors longer to help accommodate after-hours requests and streamline your fitness for duty testing requirements!

Mandatory COVID-19 Testing and Workplace Policy

We have been living with COVID-19 for almost a year now. It has been a year of uncertainty, problem-solving, and resiliency for everyone, especially for those in the workforce. With little direction, employers and employees alike have been left feeling fatigued, overwhelmed, and confused surrounding COVID-19 and occupational health and safety in their workplace.

At DriverCheck, we are frequently asked by employers: "Do I have the right to enforce mandatory COVID-19 testing on my employees?”

To help answer this question, we refer to the recent labour arbitration decision in Christian Labour Association of Canada v Caressant Care Nursing & Retirement Homes dated Dec 9, 2020.
