Pre‑Placement / Pre‑Access Testing

What is Pre-Placement or Pre-Access Testing?

Pre-placement or pre-access drug and alcohol tests are performed on a potential employee after the offer of employment is conditionally accepted. Pre-access testing can also be used with current employees to gain access to specified work-site.

What if the Tests Results are Positive?

If an applicant tests positive for drugs or alcohol, and it is determined they have a substance use disorder, under the Canadian Human Rights Act (CHRA), employers have the duty to offer accommodation (learn more about Return-To-Duty & Substance Abuse Professional Referrals). This is because the CHRA considers dependency to be a disability. However, if it is determined that the applicant does not have a dependency the CHRA legislation with respect to 'the duty to accommodate' does not apply.

Why Pre-Placement Drugs Tests?

Pre-Placement testing is vital for safety-sensitive workplaces such as transportation, manufacturing, oil and gas, and construction. By helping identify job candidates using drugs that can impair their ability to work safely and effectively you reduce the risk of accidents and injuries. Pre-placement drug tests, along with a random testing program, promotes a drug-free workplace and help to deter drug use among employees.

DriverCheck has extensive experience in pre-placement tests and can work with you to create a program that serves your unique needs and helps keep your workplace safe and your employees healthy.
